When did different become a bad thing?
If you look around my High school you will see that 90% of the students are wearing the same types of outfits and have their hair in four ways straight, wavy, permed or weave. Rarely do you see a natural head of hair in the crowd. Most of these kids have a cellphone and a boyfriend. I don’t have either. Sometimes I feel as though different is becoming a bad thing. Most of these kids are terrified of standing out and being different. That is why there are so many cliques littering our schools, tight groups of kids that are all same color who do some of the same things. When someone is different or they stand out people tend to remember them because they stuck out from the crowd.
Sixth grade was a terrible year for me because I didn’t fit in anywhere and I was a shy quiet girl. Everyone else had phones and wore makeup and I wasn’t interested in either. I felt so different and I didn’t like it. It was a relief when I finally met my first real best friend Amelia (I changed her name for privacy) Amelia was different she had a Chinese accent that a lot of kids made fun of and long jet black hair. Amelia was different and because of it she became my friend.
I just want to let you know that being different isn’t a bad thing. If a bunch of your friends smoke and you don’t agree then it is ok to walk away. Or if your boyfriend is verbally abusing you it is ok say something about it. Oftentimes, being different from everyone else is hard because who wants to be the only Orange crayon in a box of purple crayons? But remember different is more memorable than the same.
Bye!
