During puberty parents and teens argue a lot. I love my parents but sometimes they get on my last nerves. Some common arguments we have are over TV shows, social media, nail painting, movies, sugar, and arguments with my brothers. :(. Let me give you an idea of how tight my parents are.
I can't watch Avengers because its too violent
I'm 14 and I don't have a Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram
I wasn't able to paint my nails until this year (14)
I don't have my own cell phone.
I haven't been on one date with a boy.
But I have learned things through the years. Sometimes parents are strict because they love you and want the best for you. But what do you do if you really want to do something but your parents say no?
Here are a few tips and tricks on how to persuade them.
1. Tell them reasons why: Let's Say you want to go with your church on a trip. Tell your parents where you are going, how you're going to get there, what activities you are doing, and when you will be coming back. It may seem like useless information to you, but your parents want to make sure you are safe.
2. Listen to their answer: Sometimes you may have to ask your parents why they say that they don't want you to do something. For example, they may not want you to paint your nails because they know how much work it is to keep them looking nice.
3. OBEY: One thing I have learned is that obeying what your parents say and obeying the boundaries that they set will not only keep you safe but will build their trust in you. Then, when they start to give you more freedom, they know that you won't abuse it, and will go easier on you.
You may not always get along with your parents, but living with them and loving them will build thier trust in you.
