"History is so boring. Martin Luther King is boring. All he did was protest there wasn't enough BOOM BOOM BAM" My six year old brother said imitating gun sounds. "I know, I mean I am ready for a war." As I sit in the hallway crouched over my computer I pause and my heart momentarily breaks. Here my brothers are, one of them just eight years old talking about how history was boring, not appreciating the sacrifices that people like Rosa Parks and MLK made. Instead, they wanted to fight. With the Ferguseon results hanging in the balance there is enough tension around. It sneaks into people's minds and pools unto the streets in angry shouts. It is scary to think that this is our future. A place where history no longer matters and where the red blood splatters everywhere. A place where if your parents are not around, it is ok to make fun of those people who sacrificed thier lives for us. And I sit here shaking my head. I am part of the future and the history of America is in my blood. History is too important to be pushed to the side. It makes me wonder about other teens. Am I the only one who still thinks that history is important? Or is it like the whole idea that "sex before marriage" is old and no longer applies. If only our ancestors were here listening. Maybe the world will end and the rapture will come before our world begins to crumble like bread in a bread oven. It is the best thing that could happen in our broken society. Huh this is my own opinion piece! SO what do you think about history? Is it a part of you or is it part of the past?
